Pregnancy Thoughts

I had this message on my yahoo pregnancy calendar today: Congratulations! Your pregnancy is officially full-term. The baby can arriveany day now.

I was slightly suprised b/c I’ve heard anywhere from 37 weeks to 38 weeks is considered full term, so 36 weeks sounds a little early - but it is so wonderful to know that Elliot would likely be just fine if he arrived today.

I never tire of feeling him move around inside - now that I know how he’s positioned it’s fun because I can tell what part of the body is sticking out of my tummy. He must be sideways becasue when I sit down sometimes my tummy points out like an arrow rather than round like a ball.

I’m glad I’m a morning person - every morning at 6:00 a.m. I walk into City Hall thinking, boy I can’t believe how great I feel!  By the end of the day I can be pretty tired - but I’m still in awe of how good I feel most of the time. I never expected pregnancy to be this good- physically & emotionally it’s just been a wonderful experience.

Breastfeeding Class

Tuesday night we attended a  Breastfeeding Class at the hospital. It was excellent. The teacher is the hospital’s lactation consultant so she’s the one who will help us after Elliot arrives. She was so informative & easy to understand - I think we both learned a lot. I had read most of the material in books already, but there were several things I had questions on & was able to get those answered. It was the first time Charlie had heard most of the information & I think it was really good for him - I know his knowlege & support will be key to our success. She said that because we’ve seen Elliot sucking his thumb on the ultrasound he has a good chance of being a good nurser! I’m really looking forward to breastfeeding him, and would do it purely for the bond & the $avings, but all the other benefits are so amazing it makes me so glad I’m going to do it. Everything we learn in these classes about how childbirth & breastfeeding work - is amazing - so clearly perfectly designed by a loving creator.

All the little details

Just getting prepared…washed all the linnens on Wednesday and last night I sterilized all the bottles & breast pumps. I need to wash the toys too. I’m really glad we got the extra chest with the furniture because all the drawers are filling up fast! I feel funny sometimes doing all these things when he’s not due for a few more weeks - but I’d rather be prepared for him to come early, than to be caught off guard. I’m trying to save some small projects for when I’m off work so I don’t go crazy with boredom.
