Family Craft Day

Saturday our mom’s came over & we all spent the day doing crafts for the nursery. Sylvia made the curtains while Charlie & my mom & I made the covers for the rocking chair cushions. Later, Katie & I did some shopping for the nursery - we’re going to have a felt board & a chalk board in the room for him to play with - yes I realize it will be a while before they are in use, but they are super cute, and super cheap toys, and educational - so what could be better than that? I also made a sling & will be making another one when the rings I ordered arrive. I think I’ll have about 5 slings once Elliot arrives - I’m bound to like at least one of them! We had a lot of fun all of us together doing projects - the 2 sewing machines at opposite ends of the table, fabric spread out all over the floor - this little boy sure is loved!

Childbirth Class Begins

I was pleasantly suprised with our childbirth instructor. She is an advocate for all natural birth and I can tell that she sees the experience the way that I do. We have 5 couples in the class & each couple had to come up with a team name. We weren’t terribly creative, as we had to do it on the spot, we came up with “Operation Elliot” thoughI hope that the true experience has nothing to do with an operation. We were the youngest couple there, but also the most knowledgeable - it was cute to see Charlie spouting off answers to questions the teacher asked - when most of the people sat there with no clue - all his reading is paying off. All the guys have a joke about not getting too “fluffy” - that referring to all the relaxation, visualization, massage stuff - it’s cute to see them all try to be tough. The only bad part was how badly I felt - I could hardly breathe normally, let alone do any of the breathing exercises! I’m feeling better today  though, so I should be able to participate tonight.

Miserable Cold

Ugh, I didn’t do anything on my day off last Wednesday but lay on the couch, I stayed home sick Thursday and Friday also. This was a killer cold - and it’s still lingering. I could hardly breath, constantly sneezing, watery eyes, and overall miserableness. I ended up taking medication b/c after calling the doctors office I realized it was better to get it cleared up than let it develop into an infection & end up on antibiotics. I just don’t remember having a cold this bad before. I did read that the hormones in pregnancy can increase cold symptoms & make them worse - now I know it’s true. Wednesday I watched Anne of Green Gables & Anne of Avonlea, those are great sick-day movies, Thursday & Friday I kept the TV off - I feel like the day is such a waste when it is on all the time. Its been over a week & I’m finally feeling better but the congestion is hanging on. I can at least sleep now, there were a couple nights when I only slept about 3 hours & even those weren’t consecutive. Fortunetly from what I understand Elliot was in no danger from my being sick. The fun thing about laying down all day was that I got to pay attention to all his movements, he’s such a little wiggle worm.
