I wish I were in bed

I’ve come down with a cold and it is not fun. I have watery achey eyes, congestion, and overall lethargy. It’s so hard to sit still at home & rest. I tried my best yesterday when we got home from Sunday School (skipped church b/c I wasn’t up to it). I did make 15 pairs of cloth nursing pads, and painted wooden letters that are magnetized to connect for Elliot’s room. Other than that I layed around drinking fluids. I did get a nice long nap in there too. Today I’m at work b/c I don’t want to use up any sick time, but it’s awful having to be here when I feel like being in bed. I wish the hours would pass more quickly. Fortunetly on Wednesday I have no plans so I can just rest all day.

It’s comming together…

I will never buy anything from Burlington Coat Factory / Baby Depot ever again. That said, after all we’ve been through I don’t regret our decision to buy the baby furniture there. From the beginning they have had awful service, and on Saturday when we went to pick up the items that had arrived nothing had improved. It still takes them hours to provide any kind of service, and after we brought it home, we found they had given us some wrong pieces & claimed to have given us other parts that weren’t there. It was a long day & hours of working with less than competent people trying to get things worked out. It ended with Charlie talking with the district manager & finally getting some resolution. We got 10% off the entire order, plus 60% off an additional chest that we hadn’t planned on buying. Currently we have all the items except for the hutch - and it’s to be determined when that will arrive. Once we had it all in the room though - it was wonderful. We love everything about the furniture - the quality is superb with special dovetail jointing (instead of glue), the wood is sturdy and the tea stain is gorgeous. Even though we still have to have the walls fixed & painted, we went ahead & placed the furniture where it will eventually be. I started filling drawers & hanging clothes in the closset. In one day the room went from having nothing but piles of boxes, to looking like a nursery. We got the rocking chair my parents had when I was born & it fits perfectly in the corner next to the combo - dresser/changing table. We put the crib bedding on, and I got to unpack all the cloth diapers & put them away. I get a thrill everytime I walk by the room - it’s so amazing to think in 2 months there will be our little boy in there. I could just sit in the rocking chair for hours daydreaming!

The Newborn Inn

That’s what Foothill Presbyterian Hospital calls their maternity ward. The tour was nice, overall I would say we were pleased. There were a few rules I wasn’t fond of - like no videotaping or pictures of the birth - only afterwards or before. They also said they only let laboring women drink water & have ice-chips (I will be cheating when the nurses aren’t looking b/c I know better!).  They have shared showers for many of their rooms, but hopefully we’ll get one with our own. The benefits are that Charlie can stay with us the whole time & we will always have a private room. They allow lots of people in the room - however I’m only having Charlie & my mom so that’s not an issue for us. They do have a nice waiting room down the hall where everyone is welcome to wait to see Elliot after he is born.  It isn’t what I’d dream of in a facility - but most hospitals aren’t. They don’t have all the laborin accesories I’d like, but they did have a chart on the wall of ways to labor out of bed - so it was good to see that they are open to alternatives. Fortunetly the hospital is on the same street we live on - just a couple minutes away, so we’ll feel free to take as long as we like laboring at home before we go in. They had a woman from the library there, and she shared about a reading time they have on Thursdays for newborns to 18months, so as soon as I’m up to it I think Elliot & I will make that a weekly outing.
