I would really like to sleep…

without any back pain. Maybe this is a good introduction to the interupted sleep I’ll be getting when Elliot arrives. Last night I woke up in pain, it seemed no matter what position I was in, it hurt badly enough for me to catch my breath. I finally ended up sitting indian style, facing my headboard, with pillows on my tummy, stacked high enough to rest my arms & head on. After an hour or so of sleeping like that the pain was gone & I returned to sleeping sitting up, facing forward. When my alarm whent off I was so happy to not be in pain that I ignored it…and went to work a little late. I dont’ even mind getting up several times to use the restroom anymore, it’s just part of the routine. I definetly have compassion for those that deal with back pain all the time - I am fortunate to have mine go away for the most part when I am up and about. I just pray it goes away after Elliot arrives.

We started a new childbirth book last night, it’s called An Easier Childbirth. I think we both learned some new stuff, it had great advice for understanding and handeling early labor as opposed to active labor. This book is neat because it’s like a workbook, there are lots of questions for us to answer & write out.

Tonight is my weekly bath night! I’ve started taking them on tuesdays when I’m at my In-Law’s home because they have a lovely jacuzzi tub. It is at least a little bit of relief for my back before bedtime. How I wish my hospital offered them for labor.

Settled Down!

I think it’s safe to say we’ve found a church home. Unless something serious comes up in the next couple Sundays of the introduction class we’re sticking with Church of the Open Door. We’ve been pleased with everything we’ve learned about the church. The teaching is solid, and the people really are wonderful, but what I like most is their emphasis on small groups and decipleship. They also seem to be very open and honest, there is no pretending to be better than they are. Their budget shows where the heart is, and that is definetly in missions. They are not legalistic, but there is a clear sense of right and wrong, and an expectation of righteousness, with an emphasis on grace when inevitably there is failure. It isn’t perfect, and no church will be, but I feel we’ve found a place where we are by no means setteling, which is how I felt for a long time after we realized we weren’t going to be able to maintain the 40 minute drive to Grace EV Free. We look forward to joining a small group, but right now we have childbirth classes on Wednesdays so it will be a few weeks before we can do that. It just feels good to finally have a place to call home.

Here Comes the Bride!

I coordinated a wedding for a friend on Saturday. Everything went very smoothly, started & ended on time & no real issues. It was fun to do, it’s something I really enjoy - making sure everything goes according to plan. Daryl & Becky were in the wedding party so that made it fun also, and it was amazing to see Becky in a wedding 2 weeks after giving birth to Natania! Mom & Baby did wonderfully. Charlie got a little intro into childcare on Friday night during the rehersal, he had to calm a fussy baby while we all rehearsed. One of the wedding guests stoped me at the reception & wanted to know all my opinions about weddings - her daughter is getting married in June…I’m no professional, but it was neat, she complimented my work. The pastor also said I was great to work with, not too over-controlling like others he’s worked with, so I guess I’m not so bossy after all! It was also fun to see our friends get married. Most of our friends are already married so we’re going to more baby showers than weddings these days. I can’t believe it’s been almost 5 years now since my wedding day…

All these little battles…

It’s a good thing that we followed our instincts and ordered the nursery furniture early. It was promised to us by February 20th. I wasn’t too pleased with the service we received, but we couldn’t beat the price so we went for it. I was dilligent to call each month to make sure that all was on schedule. Each time I was assured that everything was fine. Well the 20th has come & gone and only yesterday did they discover that the factory is running behind…and still no word on when the product will arrive. Charlie & I are getting tired of all these issues!

One battle seems to be getting won, last night we went to the HOA meeting & brought an official letter of complaint regarding the neglect in getting the leaks repaired. The board seemed sympathetic & assured us that they will make our unit a priority & do all they can to get it taken care of ASAP. So for now I’m feeling good about that.
